Added support for GOG Galaxy and the GOG Game Preservation Program
13/11/2024
I continue working little by little on the website, the entry I am writing today can be said to be a special for GOG games. Without any support or documentation from GOG, I have managed to read information from the API that GOG has for its Galaxy client and extract information that I believe is relevant when showing you the deals on the website. I will detail the changes I have made in the last few days:
-
First, I have changed the location of the game's operating systems and now it is shown inside the platform box. The reason for this is because there are differences in operating systems between Steam and GOG Galaxy, for example, if you want to play Stardew Valley on Linux, Steam does offer this system but GOG Galaxy does not offer this operating system. While it is true that GOG allows you to download the game installers for Linux, I have chosen to stick to what GOG Galaxy offers because it is the most convenient for the user. Regarding other platforms, if in the future I am able to read specific information about the operating systems they offer, I will add it.
-
Second, I have added specific information for GOG Galaxy games in 'icon' format, if the game offers achievements and/or cloud saving for GOG Galaxy you will see the icons of a star and a cloud in the GOG box. I was hesitant to add information about controller support and languages, because I don't want to risk overwhelming you with information about the game and I have opted to leave it on 'stand by'.
- Third and last, today GOG has launched the game preservation program, so now if the game is within that program you will see an icon in it. I think it is an extra value that it gives to the game, at least for me.
